It was just a couple of weeks ago that singer, Jacquees, took to social media to announce that he was the King of RnB. Many did not agree with his statement and now someone by the name of Ricky Fields has created a petition to stop Jacquees from doing music covers. So far, the petition has 43,369 names and counting. Currently, the goal is to have 50,000 signatures. It’s crazy how one video can change the perception of someone. Jacquees has been making music covers since before he was signed to Cash Money Records and he was just praised for his Ella Mai ‘Trip’ cover.

Both celebs and music fans flooded social media to express how wrong and disrespectful Jacquees was on giving himself the crown. Quavo, Nick Cannon, and Snoop Dogg were among the few celebs that spoke up in support of Jacquees’ proclamation.

To make things clear Jacquees has repeatedly iterated that he said he is the king of RnB of this generation which means fans aging from 16 to 25. From the looks of comments and opinions most people have seemed to ignore this key point in Jacquees’ statement. The description in the petition against Jacquees says, “As a Black Community, we have to figure out how we getting rid of Jacquees.” Some of the comments read,

“Hes doing the most it’s more like mockery then covering,

You can’t give yourself the title “king of R&B” if you’re out here ruining covers because you can’t hit the proper notes..use your voice for your own unique style that better suits your voice,

He is not the king of rb. This is completely disrespectful. He shouldn’t be remixing other peoples songs, he should he making his own! He’s too negative for everyone.”

Not sure what a petition can do to stop someone from doing music covers, but only time will tell.
