21 Savage Announces Financial Literacy Course and 100k in Scholarships

GRAMMY-award winning artist 21 Savage has launched another online financial literacy course along with a 100K scholarship as part of his 21 Savage Bank Account Program.

Savage, who recently celebrated his 28th birthday at a star-studded 70’s party, became an advocate for financial literacy in 2018 when he launched his 21 Savage Bank Account Campaign. The program, named after his 2017 hit single “Bank Account”, was based on the rapper’s previous lack of financial education and his own experience with poverty.

“It’s like a lot of poverty in our communities where I’m from,” the rapper tells Mic Dispatch in an interview. “You can’t get taught how to manage money by somebody’s that’s poor. They don’t teach you how to save your money or manage your money in school. I didn’t know nothing about bank accounts until I was probably about 23.”

Now, the Atlanta based rapper has partnered with Chime, a mobile banking service, to create an online financial literacy curriculum. The online curriculum includes a six-course online program that covers topics in banking, budgeting, and managing credit. The courses are also available in English and Spanish.

Chime announced their partnership with the rapper via Instagram.

“This is something very special to us. Like 21 Savage, we believe in the power that the financial literacy can bring,” the organization writes in the caption of the post. “and the value of knowing how to make your money work for you. Financial peace of mine is something everyone is entitled to.”

In addition to his virtual literacy course, the Bank Account Rapper has announced that he will be granting 100 high students across the country an $1,000 scholarship.

According to Chime, in order to apply students must complete online coursework teaching them the fundamentals of banking, credit scores, and much more. After completion of the course, eligible students must submit an essay. The last day to apply will be December 4th, click here to apply.

Since the global pandemic, the Atlanta based rapper has continued to advocate for financial literacy. This past summer, the ‘A Lot’ rapper launched a series of free online literacy courses for children stuck inside during the coronavirus pandemic. At the start of this academic school year, 21 Savage gave computers away to students to aid virtual learning.

“I feel like it’s important more than ever to give our next generation the tools to succeed in life,” the rapper said in a statement.
