The case of Jussie Smollett has everyone on an emotional rollercoaster. The story initially unfolded as a hate crime where two men attacked the singer/actor by taunting him with racial and homophobic comments, left a rope around his neck, and even poured a chemical substance on him.

According to CBS Chicago News, a letter with racial and homophobic slurs was sent to the Empire Studios a week before the attack. Smollett believed the letter didn’t receive the spotlight it deserved which many believe caused him to plan the attack. He allegedly paid extras on the show, brothers Ola and Abel Osundairo, $3,500 for their participation.

Jussie has not yet came forward to admit to the allegations, and police are further investigating the story.
