Taking your God given talents and turning them into a full time career is a dream for most creatives. Solidifying your passion in a world where they try to keep most people confined to social norms is an accomplishment in itself. Sadly, as it is a trend to most creatives, finances are a big problem that stifle people from making their dreams become a reality. Hair product brand, TRESemmé, is stepping in to help those expenses for aspiring Black stylists to attend cosmetology school.

Get your blowdryers ready! TRESemmé has a new scholarship program from September 9 to October 18 where Black women who are interested in attending or are currently enrolled in cosmetology school to become hair professionals. A committee of influential women will select ten recipients to receive $10,000 each.

“There are many opportunities for future Black female cosmetologists that go beyond the salon chair,” Unilever global hair care brand ambassador and celebrity hairstylist Ursula Stephen stated.

Stephen, who is one of the members on the committee, also stated, “There are many barriers that exist for future Black female stylists, but things are changing because those tough conversations are being had. And great opportunities like the TRESemmé Future Stylists Fund are helping to encourage some much-needed change.”

Abrima Erwiah, Rebecca Minkoff, Leyna Bloom,  Sandrine Charles and Esi Eggleston Bracey, are also on the deciding committee.
