David ‘Big Papi’ Ortiz is a retired Dominican-American baseball player who is primarily known for playing 14 seasons with the Boston Red Sox. While enjoying his hometown of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic Ortiz was at the Dial Bar and Lounge when he was ambushed by a man off a motorcycleand shot at point blank range.
He was taken to the Abel Gonzalez Clinic where he underwent surgery for six hours and is now currently in stable condition.
His father Leo Ortiz told ESPN “Doctors say that David is out of danger, thank God,” he continues on to say, “What they have told me post-op is that the doctors believe he will recover quickly.”
According to Dominican National Police Director Ney, Aldrin Bautista Almonte the suspect identified as Eddy Feliz Garcia was captured and beaten by a crowd of people at the bar. There is no motive yet found for his actions.
Ortiz family hopes to move him to the United States once doctors give the ok.
