JaGurl TV attended to 2021 BET Awards Virtual Press Room. Gospel singer Kirk Franklin stopped by the press room after winning his BET Award for Best Gospel/Inspiration Award and expressed how he would like to use his career and platform as a “light” for other emerging Gospel artists.

“I’m grateful,” Franklin tells the press. “But I also want to be a door to some many younger gospel artists. I want the world to see that there is so many more incredibly talented younger gospel artists that deserve this opportunity to. So, I just want to continue just to be a light and a microphone to say there’s more.”

The famous gospel singer opened the 2021 BET Awards with Lil Baby performing their hit single “We Win.”

Although this isn’t his first track merging gospel and Hip Hop elements, Franklin’s newest collaboration highlights the “longevity of gospel.”

“What it means more than anything to me personally,” Franklin begins. “Gospel music being one of the foundations of American music, being the original sound of people of color, gospel blues, and jazz and how every other art form of musical experience that we experience as people of color, that it just shows the longevity of the genre.”

“I hope people will continue to see that gospel music is valuable,” he adds.
