It looks like comedian Leslie Jones will have Saturday nights free from now on to work on other projects. According to Variety, the standout comedian of “Saturday Night Live” has decided to leave the late night show after five seasons. Those familiar with the matter states that Jones is set to explore film projects and has a Netflix Comedy Special scheduled. Jones joined the program as writer and quickly worked her way on the screen in 2014.

The news of Jones departure comes as the NBC series gets ready to launch its 45th Season of Saturday Night Live in September. This season part of the annual altering of the cast will take place in late summer as cast members explore other opportunities and leaves Executive Producer Lorne Michaels considering their needs and contracts. SNL is constantly introducing new talent each year as cast members depart and contracts lapse. Jones joined the “SNL” cast in her mid to late 40’s and her appearances on the show opened the door for many opportunities including a chance to provide commentary for NBC’s Olympics broadcasts, and cameos on “Late Night with Seth Meyers.”

We wish Leslie Jones the best and much success on her new projects!
