Missy Elliott to Receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the 2019 VMAS

MTV announced today that the record breaking hip hop icon Missy Elliott will be honored with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the 2019 Video Music Awards. She will also be performing live, making this her first appearance back on the VMA stage since 2003 when performed with Madonna, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera.

This will make Missy Elliott the first ever female rapper and fourth rapper to ever receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award following LL Cool J in 1997, Beastie Boys in 1998 and Kanye West in 2015.

MTV has partnered with PEPSI to host an exclusive pop-up event for Missy Elliott fans as they highlight Missy and all of her icon moments that helped redefine hip-hop. The dates are August 24-25th in New York City. The location and ticketing information will be given at a later date.

The 2019 Video Music Awards will air live on Monday, August 26th at 8pm et/pt on MTV.
