Cardi B Becomes the First Female Rapper to Earn a Diamond Single for ‘Bodak Yellow’

Rapper Cardi B makes history as the first female rapper to earn a Diamond single for her first mainstream hit, 2017’s “Bodak Yellow.”

Today (March 9th), The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has certified “Bodak Yellow” as Diamond. This means that in the United States the single has sold over 10 million units. Cardi has become the first female rapper to earn a Diamond single plaque.

This is not Cardi’s first historic win with “Bodak Yellow.” Back in 2017, shortly after its release, the hit single hit No. 1 on the Hot 100, adding Cardi’s name to the shortlist of females rappers to reach that No. 1 spot. The rapper held the spot for 3 weeks.

The 28-year-old found out the news last night and quickly took to social media to tease the announcement and thank her fans.

In a series of tweets following the video, Cardi expresses her shock over her historic achievement.

“WTFFF!!” She writes. “How the heiilllll yall already now???I can’t. I’ll be back later. DEUM YA BE KNOWING EERRTHANG!”

The artist returned hours later, still in awe of her achievement.

Congratulations to Cardi B as she continues to score high and make her stamp in the music industry.
