Maxine Waters Praises Megan Thee Stallion in Personal Letter

In a letter, Congress Woman Maxine Waters praises Megan Thee Stallion for recent New York Times Op-ed regarding issues that affect Black Women world-wide.

The “Body” rapper took to Instagram to share the letter from the Calfornia Representative.

“One of the highlights of my year was getting a letter from congresswoman @repmaxinewater,” Megan wrote. “I am so honored to be recognized by such an amazing woman and I promise to keep using my voice and encourage others to use theirs.”

In the letter, Waters thanked the rapper for using her platform to shed light on issues that disproportionately affect Black Women.

“I read the op-ed you wrote that appeared in the New York Times recently and I can’t thank you enough for bringing much-needed attention to the plight of Black women, not just here in the United States—but everywhere,” wrote the congresswoman.

Waters’ mentioned how although Black women carry the burdens of our families and societies, their personal issues and struggles are often ignored or ridiculed. “While we are too often overlooked, there is no doubt that Black women are the glue for our families and communities and a crucial part of the fabric of this country.”

Waters explains that she is proud of Megan for using her voice and platform to uplift Black women. She encourages the rapper to continue to fight and advocate for issues pertaining to black women world-wide. “I know that Black women and girls everywhere thank you for the way you so fiercely have their back. I want you to know I have your back, too,” wrote Waters. “I hope that during these trying times you take comfort in knowing that I am fighting for you, and all Black women, every single day. Stay well, keep fighting and take care. We need your voice in this fight.”
