Emmy award winner, Donald Glover, will be the executive producer and writer for his new Amazon series. Glover has a history of producing as we can see from his contributions to FX series Atlanta. Hearing Glover has a new project in the works was no surprise but he pulled out a wold card by adding Malia Obama, former president’s daughter, to his writing team. Glover was impressed by Malia’s work ethic and how talented she is, which has now bloomed info a great working reltionship. “She’s just like an amazingly talented person”, Glover said to Variety.
Malia Obama just at 23 years old has worked on various high coveted industry gigs already. In 2014 she worked on set with well intigrated actress, Halle Berry, for the drama series Extant.She started a blooming career for herself by interning on HBO’S Girls in 2015. Before this Amazon project with Glover, in 2017 she was a part of the Weinstein Company; an American independent film studio. Malia Obama continues to elevate in Hollywood with this new project alongside Glover with this new project titled Hive.Reportedly the series focuses on a Beyoncé-type character.
Stephen Glover, Donald’s brother and collaborator, is also helping develop this Amazon series. “Donald always says perspective is important, and people with different perspectives are important for a writers room. And for sure, she definitely has a unique perspective on everything,” said Stephen. “So we wanted to hear her stories and have her work with us. Listening to her stories and having her involved really gave us a lot of good ideas.”
As we all know, being a part of a team can often result in many differences. Stephen says he doesn’t hesitate to communicate his disagreements to Obama even though her father is former POTUS, Barack Obama. “Well, you know, we just hurt her feelings,” he said jokingly. “We can’t be easy on her just because she’s the [former] president’s daughter. Nah, she’s very down to earth, and cool. So, it’s not a problem at all. She has a lot of good ideas. She’s great. She’s just a regular person like everybody else.”
Donald Glover stated “She’s really focused, and she’s working really hard. I feel like she’s just somebody who’s gonna have really good things coming soon. Her writing style is great.”
This Amazon series has yet to have a release date. Stay tuned as more information about Hive will be available.
